Estrada Signs on Loan

News has just come out that D.C. United have completed the signing of Ecuadorian forward Michael Estrada on loan for the 2022 season with an option to buy. From looking at some “sizzle” reels he looks like the kind of forward who likes to power them home. Be prepared for some bulging nets!

Bolstering our attack has been a priority for us in the offseason and we’ve been closely monitoring the possibility of bringing Michael to the club. He is a dangerous #9 who we believe will be a great addition to our attacking unit, and we’re excited to get him on loan for the 2022 season.

D.C. United receive $2mil GAM in trade

The news that we’ve all been dreading but knew was going to happen has happened. Paul Arriola has been traded to FC Dallas. D.C. United have received a record breaking amount in trade fees. Initially DCU will receive $1.5mil in 2022 followed by another $500k next year. On top of that, there is a performance related bonus of up to $300k as well as 30% of any fee if Arriola is sold outside of MLS.

It will be sad to see Paul go, after all we did sign him to a YDP contract and he has gone on to make 91 appearances in MLS for us, as well as scoring 20 times and laying on 16 assists for his teammates. I, along with many of you will wish him all the best at Dallas, just not when they are playing us 😉

“We want to thank Paul for his commitment and service to the club since he arrived in 2017, he has been an integral player for our team and has been a model professional both on and off the field. We wish him luck in the next chapter of his career in Dallas.

Lucy Rushton – General Manager, D.C. United

Transaction: D.C. United acquire $2,000,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) from FC Dallas in exchange for winger Paul Arriola. The club will receive $1.5 million GAM in 2022 and $500,000 in GAM in 2023. D.C. United will also receive an additional $300,000 in GAM if Arriola achieves certain performance-based incentives while with FC Dallas, as well as retain 30% of any transfer fee if the player is transferred outside of MLS.

D.C. United sign Venezuelan forward Gelmin Rivas

D.C. United have bolstered their frontline with the signing of Venezuelan forward Gelmin Rivas. He joins his fellow Venezuelan compatriot Junior Moreno at the club and will occupy an international slot. He was rumoured to have recently flown in to Washington D.C. and have been placed under quarantine due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Now this has been confirmed as a free transfer.

“We are excited to welcome Gelmin to the District,” Dave Kasper, D.C. United General Manager and VP of Soccer Operations, said. “Gelmin’s experience and goal scoring record in leagues across the world will add some important firepower and attacking depth to our roster. We’re looking forward to integrating him with the squad.”

Dave Kaspar, D.C. United General Manager and VP of Soccer Operations

Rivas had most recently been at Turkish side MKE Ankaragücü, however he only made 7 appearances, scoring once and making one assist. He has scored goals across the world and brings a wealth of experience from those times. Hopefully he will give something D.C. United have lacked recently.

“We’re excited to bring a player of Julian’s quality and pedigree to the club ahead of the 2020 season,” Dave Kasper, D.C. D.C. United acquire Peruvian International Edison Flores

DC United have gone and splashed the cash to acquire Edison Flores for a club record fee. This is yet to be made public but does eclipse the fee paid for Paul Arriola. Edison Flores is normally a left winger but has been playing behind the striker most recently, and it’s reckoned that is where he will primarily play.

After Acosta leaving a hole in that position, this is a great signing as he is proven in Liga MX and on the international stage. Great to see DCU making waves in the transfer market, and hopefully a few more signings means we can look forward to a successful 2020 season.

D.C. United have acquired Peruvian National Team midfielder Edison Flores on permanent transfer from Liga MX (Mexico) side Club Atlético Monarcas Morelia pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 Visa. Flores will become the second Designated Player on the Black-and-Red roster.
“We are excited to add an international player of Edison’s pedigree to the team ahead of the 2020 season,” Dave Kasper, D.C. United General Manager and VP of Soccer Operations, said. “He is an exciting and dynamic attacking player who creates and scores goals. What has really impressed us is his commitment to the team…he is a versatile and gritty two-way player who plays with a real pulse. Edison is a proven international player with Peru and was a major contributor for them in the 2018 World Cup and in their impressive run to the final in the Copa America. We are looking forward to integrating Edison with the team in preseason in preparation for the first game on Feb. 29.”

Loudoun United sign Erik Sorga

Earlier today, Loudoun United announced that they had acquired Erik Sorga from FC Flora in Estonia. He is a 20 year old forward who already has a goalscoring pedigree despite his tender age. He made his professional debut as a 17 year old back on Jan 1st 2017 and scored his first goal on his 3rd appearance. He has gone on to score 78 goals in 91 appearances in all competitions, showing that he knows where the back of the net is.

Not only does he know where the net is, he knows how to win too, having won the league title and the golden boot in 2019. He starts his career off in USL but I don’t think it’ll be long before he comes onto the MLS scene.

Position: Forward

Birthplace: Tallinn, Estonia

Country: Estonia

Birthdate: 07/08/1999

Age: 20

Height: 5’9”

Previous Club: FC Flora (Estonia)

Status: International

Transaction: Loudoun United FC sign forward Erik Sorga on a permanent transfer pending league and federation approval and the receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

Loudoun United FC have announced the signing of Estonian National Team forward Erik Sorga on a permanent transfer from FC Flora Tallinn in the Estonian Meistriliiga (First Division) pending league and federation approval and the receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
“We are looking forward to adding Erik to the roster ahead of the 2020 season,” Stewart Mairs, Loudoun United FC Technical Director, said. “He is a dynamic attacking talent with an extremely impressive goalscoring record at the club level in Estonia. He already has six caps with the Estonian National Team at just 20-years-old and has a high ceiling for development and improvement. We are excited to integrate him with the rest of the squad and see what he can do this season.”
