Great news for not only Griffin Yow, but also a recognition for the work that the DCU Academy and the newly formed Loudoun United club have done. It has been a fantastic year for Yow as he signed for the Black & Red and made his debut against NYCFC earlier on in the season. He has featured heavily in the friendly matches this season too. Club statement is below.
U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team head coach Raphael Wicky has selected D.C. United midfielder/forward and Homegrown Griffin Yow as a part of his 21 player roster to represent the United States at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in Brazil from Oct.26 to Nov. 18. Yow signed for the Black-and-Red on March 19, 2019 as the club’s 12th Homegrown Signing. Yow made his professional debut for the Black-and-Red in MLS action on April 21, 2019 against New York City FC as a stoppage-time substitute. He made his full professional MLS debut when he started against FC Dallas on July 4. Yow has also made 15 appearances for D.C. United’s USL Championship affiliate, Loudoun United FC and scored three goals. The USA kicks off the world championship when Group D play opens on Sunday, Oct. 27 vs. Senegal (3:50 p.m. ET; FS1, Telemundo), then faces Japan on Wednesday, Oct. 30 (6:50 p.m. ET; FS2, Universo) and finishes the group stage on Saturday, Nov. 2 vs. Netherlands (6:50 p.m. ET; FS2, Universo).
