The news that we’ve all been dreading but knew was going to happen has happened. Paul Arriola has been traded to FC Dallas. D.C. United have received a record breaking amount in trade fees. Initially DCU will receive $1.5mil in 2022 followed by another $500k next year. On top of that, there is a performance related bonus of up to $300k as well as 30% of any fee if Arriola is sold outside of MLS.

It will be sad to see Paul go, after all we did sign him to a YDP contract and he has gone on to make 91 appearances in MLS for us, as well as scoring 20 times and laying on 16 assists for his teammates. I, along with many of you will wish him all the best at Dallas, just not when they are playing us 😉

“We want to thank Paul for his commitment and service to the club since he arrived in 2017, he has been an integral player for our team and has been a model professional both on and off the field. We wish him luck in the next chapter of his career in Dallas.

Lucy Rushton – General Manager, D.C. United

Transaction: D.C. United acquire $2,000,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) from FC Dallas in exchange for winger Paul Arriola. The club will receive $1.5 million GAM in 2022 and $500,000 in GAM in 2023. D.C. United will also receive an additional $300,000 in GAM if Arriola achieves certain performance-based incentives while with FC Dallas, as well as retain 30% of any transfer fee if the player is transferred outside of MLS.
