We have the rest of the regular season fixtures announced. Great news as we can all start planning our evenings. Who have we got coming up I hear you ask? Check out the games below with both ET and BST/GMT times.

D.C. United Schedule:
Saturday, Oct. 3vs. Atlanta United | Audi Field | 7 p.m. ET | 12 a.m. BST

Sunday, Nov. 8 vs. Montreal Impact | Audi Field | 3:30 p.m. ET | 8:30 p.m. GMT

As you can see, for us Brits there are a couple of earlier kick offs (huzzah). 4 home games and 5 road games, should make for an interesting time. We’ve got New England Revolution for the 4th time this season as the penultimate game, Atlanta United twice in this run and another game at Red Bull Arena. 7 matches in total for October, rather a lot for a month but this is how this season has panned out. Hopefully, our run of injuries can come to an end so we can start utilizing our roster to its fullest.

What do you think of this run of games to end the season? Can we get into the post season?

MLS is Back group draw

The draw has taken place, with one group of 6 and the rest are 4. Each group had a main seed with the rest being unseeded. D.C. United were unseeded for this tournament. I’m pleased to say that we have been in Group C alongside Toronto FC, New England Revolution & Montreal Impact.

The draw itself was broadcast live over social and it was incredibly MLS. It’s good to have it back but my word, it was kinda awkward to watch. I know it doesn’t happen often (if at all) with drawing names out of the proverbial hat, I think it could have been done a lot better. Each top seeded team got to pick at random a number to have in their group. I’d have preferred the classic method of each team being drawn by the host. Either way it has been done and we have got who we have got.

Are you excited by the fact we have MLS back? What do you think of the draw? Hit me up on social and use the hashtag #DCUnitedKingdom

D.C. United have been drawn into Group C in the MLS is Back Tournament. The Black-and-Red are joined by 2019 MLS Cup runners-up, Toronto FC alongside fellow Eastern Conference Teams the New England Revolution and Montreal Impact.
D.C. United’s tournament schedule will be announced at a later date, potentially as early as next week, with all matches available for live viewing across Major League Soccer’s network of national broadcast partners.

Match Report: DC United 2-1 Inter Miami

In a game in which DC United need to bounce back from the home defeat in the last match, they duly did. But it wasn’t without a struggle. DC were up against a side who are making their 1st visit ever to Audi Field and only just got beat by a very strong LAFC the week before.

Inter Miami came with the star studded feel to them, the “elegant light coloured uniform”, and they certainly came to make an impression on the field. They got underway and within 2 minutes, they were 1-0 up. Rodolfo Pizarro scoring Inter Miami’s first ever goal in their history. A poor pass in the middle by Russel Canouse gifting them the possession, it finds Lewis Morgan on the right who cuts the ball back and Pizarro has a tap in.

The next big moment came when Erik Sorga came on in the 15th minute, Ola Kamara heading off due to a hamstring injury and forcing Ben Olsen into an early change. Erik Sorga making his DC & MLS debut. DC then had their first real opportunity of the game when a cross came in from the right side and Asad had his header blocked by Romain Torres. In a half in which not a whole deal happened, there was a huge amount of added time, firstly due to Kamara’s injury but then Mora also went down, similar injury and on came O’Neil Fisher for his first appearance since September 2018. And within the same added time, Robbie Robinson also went down injured too after Birnbaum fell onto his leg. A total of 9 minutes added were played in the first half.

Overall the first half was one in which Inter Miami dominated, pressed, wanted the ball more and were willing to put 3 players onto a man to win the ball back. This pressured DC into losing the ball. Things needed to change in the 2nd half if DC were to get anything out of this game.

2nd half kicked off and Inter Miami had already put the ball in the back of the net within 2 minutes again. DC really slow out of the blocks, however this time it was chalked off due to an earlier incident. That incident was a ball through behind the Miami defence, Gressel And Torres challenging for the ball and Torres deliberately handles it away from Gressel, denying him a goalscoring opportunity. Thankfully VAR picked this up, the ref went over to the monitor and cancelled out the goal, but not only that, he gave Torres a red card reducing them down to 10 men. In the next 12 minutes, in what can only be described as an implosion, Miami were down 2-1. Firstly giving away a penalty, Ulloa bringing down Flores in the box, making a mess of his clearance, up steps Asad to coolly slot hit home.

And then in the 60th minute of the game, Will Trap gives away a free kick, effort on goal hits the post and Brillant hammers the ball into the roof of the net, a true poachers effort (yes I know he is a centre back).

Miami continued to lose their way by giving away a number of free kicks, but Pizarro continued to be a threat. A really impressive performance and if they are to make anything of this season, he will need to stay fit and continue in this form. In the last 10-15 minutes of the game, Miami were playing the better football, DC went into defensive mode to hold onto the lead, only going for the counter attacks, in which Sorga did spur a couple of opportunities. Miami had a good couple of efforts towards the end and one last header in the 96th minute in which Hamid came up on top again with some safe hands. Almost gifted a goal straight after by nearly throwing it into his own net.

After 98 minutes the final whistle blew and DC took their first points of the season and Inter Miami, who could feel hard done by because of their performances, still remain on 0.

Match Facts

  • Yamil Asad scored a penalty in the 59th minute to equalize for the Black-and-Red. This marked his first goal since returning to the club with his last coming against Montreal on August 4, 2018.
  • Frédéric Brillant scored the game-winning goal in the 61st minute. It was his first goal of the season, with his last coming on Sept. 22, 2019 in a 2-0 win over Seattle.
  • Erik Sorga made his MLS and D.C. United debut as a 15th minute substitute.
  • Oniel Fisher made his first appearance for the club since September 29, 2018 as a stoppage time substitute in the first half.
  • This was the first meeting between the two clubs.

  • The Black-and-Red are 1-1-0 at home this season.

Match Preview: DC United vs Inter Miami

Gameweek 2 is here and we are up against expansion side Inter Miami. After the disappointment of the late defeat by Colorado Rapids, Ben Olsen’s side will be wanting to right those wrongs. We saw last week that there were tired legs and despite having fresh legs available, Ben decided to not use them as they weren’t tall enough. Hopefully he won’t be using that excuse this week as he uses all 3 subs if needed (we hope).

We take on Inter Miami for the 1st time in our history and we will be wanting to get off to a good start. Inter Miami last week put in a solid performance against a top LAFC side, only to get beat by a fantastic Carlos Vela goal, seriously, does he not know how to score a simple goal? What can we expect from our lads though? Here are my thoughts.

DC United

I don’t expect Ben to be making any changes and I will actually like that. Not changing for changing sake. We had spells of good football and if he chops and changes already, we will never gel. We played a 4-3-3 last week, a refreshing change from the 4-2-3-1 of 2019. I’d still like to see at some point us play with 2 strikers, but the 4-3-3 is something I can definitely get behind.

Of course we’ve got the new boys of Federico ‘Pipa’ Higuain and Mohammed Abu, but don’t expect them to go straight into the lineup. It’s already been announced by DC that Moses Nyeman & Kevin Paredes will be with Loudoun United for this weekend. I expect both new signings to be on the bench.

Inter Miami

Expansion side Inter Miami have finally entered MLS, after such a long wait for David Beckham to find and establish his side, they got underway with a game against Supporters Shield winners LAFC. And they put in a good performance, only getting beat 1-0 thanks to a Carlos Vela goal. I caught up with Sam who runs the Inter Miami UK fan page on Twitter and I spoke to him about what the strengths & weaknesses were.

Preview clip from Season 2 Episode 4 – Full episode available here

From what we’ve been told we can attack the flanks and try and nullify their playmakers as they only have Superdraft pick Robbie Robinson in the striker ranks. We normally have a solid defence and with Moreno and Felipe beginning to form a solid midfield partnership, we will be looking to them to press and nullify any key players.

Match Prediction

After the defeat last week, I expect a bit of a backlash from the team, especially from the manner of said defeat. I would think we would be attacking from the kick off, especially since we are at home. We should be showing the new boys how it’s done and the old guard know best. We still need to respect them as they do have an abundance of fantastic footballers, saying that though, I expect a victory from us today.

Where to watch

You can catch the game in the UK over on Freesports TV. The game programme starts at 8:45pm so the advertised kick off of 8:30pm won’t exactly be accurate. Classic MLS.
